Oceania Chondrichthyan Society: Student Awards

Huge congrats to our FINstitute
Student Award winners for representing with curiosity, passion, and sharky spirit.

From inspiring plenaries to bold student research in progress, it was a week of learning, connecting, and celebrating chondrichthyan science.

“As a first conference experience, OCS was so welcoming and it was incredible to hear all the spectacular work that is being done across the field of chondrichthyan science as well as getting to learn from students and researchers at different stages in their careers.” “A highlight of my week was sitting in on talks from students and colleagues at JCU, as well as each of the talks by the plenary speakers at the beginning of each day. Listening to Dr. Dudgeon, Dr. Barnett, and Dr. Simpfendorfer, I learned more about the non-linear career path that established researchers in our field have taken. As an expectations vs. reality I guess I went in with the expectation that a lot of the talks would be about published or completed research, which granted a fair amount of them were, but many others were about proposed research or research in progress. It was so amazing to see the incredible ideas and diverse directions in methods that research in the same genre of the field could take!”
