EPI Raja Ampat 2024 & 2025

A quick rundown of what the students got to experience while volunteering with Elasmobranch Project Indonesia:

🦈 Shark Surveys – Capture, tag, and release Epaulette Sharks using photo ID, DNA sampling, and tagging techniques.

🌊 Habitat Monitoring – Conduct coral & seagrass surveys using photogrammetry and ecological assessment methods.

📊 Data Collection – Work on biological data entry, annotation, and visualization.

🌿 Community Engagement – Participate in local outreach and conservation discussions.

🌍 Visit to ReShark (2024) – Assist in shark rewilding efforts by feeding baby zebra sharks.

🎉 Exploration – Optional activities like scuba diving, birdwatching, and trekking.

Shark research experience

The students on this trip gained firsthand experience in shark research and conservation. Participated in daily population monitoring surveys focused on the Epaulette Shark and its ecosystem. They also learned how to capture, handle, and release sharks, all under the guidance and support of experienced experts

Fun Adventures!

Arborek and Raja Ampat offered numerous treasures to explore, both underwater and on land. Participants were able to choose from a variety of fun activities, including land tours, bird watching, animal observation, trekking, and of course: scuba diving!
