Meeting #28 Science Communication & Stingray Vomit

We had the pleasure of hearing from Melissa Cristina Marquez as the first speaker of our first meeting of Trimester 2! We heard from her about what path she took to start working in the marine science field, how she overcame challenges as a wildlife educator such as being a woman in male dominated field, and how she became a better communicator.

Thank you so much to Jaelen Myers for running a stingray diet ecology workshop at the meeting! 🔍🕵️‍♀️ Those who attended got the opportunity to ID invertebrates 🔬, had a go at tagging stingray plushies and we got to see some of the equipment Jaelen uses to perform ‘gastric levage’ which is the non-lethal method she used in her PhD research to obtain the stomach contents from rays.
